The Wrath of The Norsemen, written by Jean Cordonnier
The Beginning
The Beginning
The Nordic Deluge into the north of Calardia began in 730 AD, spring, in a stormy day, villagers on the coast, Imperials and Swadians alike saw men in narrow wide ships, with strange men appearing on them, men with great beards and yellow hair shouting in a language that sounded odd, and the ships did not turn, they landed! The Norsemen charged off the beaches to the farms and taverns, sparring no soul in the forsaken town they raided, the town's name was Lubert, only two escaped the great massacre. Two Priests of the faith were massacred in the church with their gold stolen and their crosses broken. The two who ultimately escaped ran to Lageta to alarm Emperor Lorionius The Wise. who eventually said "They must be some Sturgeons with a twist from somewhere, they will disperse soon." The Emperor was wrong, those men have landed and started on building the first new colony of Jumne, Kodanssons was the name of the first colony, meaning the sons of Kodan, the great Saga. Kodanssons were most likely from the land Petty King Harald reigns over. Eventually the Nords in Jumne heard of their brothers' victory over those settlers, those Swadlings as they called them. Kodanssons was a flourishing colony with fish and carrots growing there, while Jumne was mostly filled with famines and harsh weather. Today the Lubertian Fish is considered a delicacy as there are not many left, it was once only a common fish as the Lubertians didn't fish too often.
After the great victory in Lubert in 730, Jumne Nords started raiding Calardia constantly, every few weeks another raid took place with the victories often to the Nordic side, The Emperor had finally taken attention of the situation and ordered the General Niron Geratte to drive those Norsemen away from the shores of Calardia, General Geratte was famous for his ruthlessness of his prisoners, exactly what the Emperor wanted. Geratte took his forces to patrol around the shores and in 745 he marched to Kodanssons with 2000 men at his service. Kodanssons by this time had a large population and the name was changed to Kodanhauger, The battle of outskirts of Kodanhauger and on the ruins of Lubert. 3000 Norsemen men and women armed with spears and strange long bows charged upon the line of heavy armed with great shields and maces the fighting on the outskirts in Kodanhauger eventually remained in a stalemate as the Norsemen took similar casualties as the Imperials did when they sent waves of men. but in the ruins of Lubert it was a different story, the fighting there proved brutal, men bashed maces into eachother and threw javelins at one another. it later ended with an Imperial Pyrrhic victory, Geratte's army retreated back, you could say that the Nords have won but they didn't, 800 men laid dead on the battlefield along with a thousand wounded and 100 captured. The Imperials lost 500 men and had 750 wounded along with 30 captured by the Nords who were eventually killed. Geratte was bested, but he wasn't going to give up soon, after treating the soldiers' wounds, the army marched in the summer of 746 to Kodanhauger territory with reinforcements of 250 men from Lageta, Geratte tried to avoid a full scale battle as the troops were not trained for the fighting style the Nords had. The fighting moved to the woods of Kodanhauger, the name for these battles are named as the "Bloody Trails" the fighting turned brutal and instead of marching a big army in the forest, Geratte sent squads of men to take ground in the forest, the biggest battle in the forest was at Aelf's Farm, with 300 Imperials under pressure by 730 Norsemen advancing on Geratte's base, which was 5 kilometers near Aelf's farm, the battle is famous for the company of Sarranids named "Fifty shades of Loyality." when 50 Sarranids opened fire in volleys on the Norsemen who were advancing in a slow shieldwall. The Nords met a heavy resistance and were pushed back fast. The casualties are up to debate but some say that 50 Imperials died and with 80 wounded while 160 Nords died and 200 wounded. The Jarl of Kodanhauger, Eric the Wise, saw that Kodanhauger was not safe and the Imperials are ruthless to them, so in the winter of 747 when Geratte's forces started to advance further into the woods near Kodanhauger, the Nords left with their ships, it was a great day for the Empire, they have finally took vengeance over the Lubertian massacre. The only thing they didn't know that the Nords will come back, The Deluge of the Norsemen will soon appear in a different and less united place....

Tundra Trouble
The Kodanhauger Jarl was forced to evacuate his lands in the emergency of the Bloody Trails, 3000 Norsemen returned to Jumne with their loot and food from Calardia but it was clear that some of the Nords will want to come back and in 752, five years after Gerrate's victory in the woods, The Nords set sail for a different place, The Vaegir Tundra. In the Tundra the Nords found almost no resistance at all as the Boyars were really busy on securing their power within the Kingdom under the heavily ruthless Dimitri The Wrong, and that simple threat on the coast of the Tundra was the least of their threats, or so they thought. The Nords settled on the coast of the Tundra where dense forests came to the contact of heavy snow. The new colony was born under Jarl Mandru Ericsson, son to the former Jarl of Kodanhauger, the name of the new colony was Eirikslund meaning Eric's land, a tribute to Eric The Wise. The Nords started arming heavily in the means of conquering more lands in the Tundra after they saw the Vaegirs are not the most united against a common foe. 1500 Armed Warriors of Jarldom marched more into the tundra into the village Tianova, the closest Vaegir village near Eirikslund, about 30 kilometers away from it. The 1500 Warriors finally reached Tianova in Spring, 764 after marching for almost 60 days as heavy snowstorms slowed their advance, though they still had the element of surprise. It was a foggy day as the Warriors reached the village, The Vaegirs in the village continued their day normally like they always did then, battle cries were heard, men appeared out of the fog, with strange haircuts and strange weapons, they fell under the villagers who couldn't defend, no one escaped the meat grinder of Tianova and as the Nords won the slaughtering they went back to Eirikslund this time with no heavy snowstorm stopping their advance dead. The Battle would be remembered as a great victory and also a great message to the Calardian Monarchs that a new feared warriors will come to conquer.
As the blood in Tianova dried, The Vaegir war horns in The Capital blew, it was time for war. Dimitri was succeeded by his son Ivan, who proved to be very competent and capable. Ivan called his Marshal of Arms, Andreijova Ravonka to take 2000 men to deal with that threat, Andreijova was ignorant, he cared only for himself and less for the soldiers, very different from Gerrate, The first battle occured in the village called Freusa in east Eirikslund, it was a heavy and bloody battle and Ravonka was forced to retreat after Nordic reinforcements came to the rescue. the second battle occured in the dense forests near the Nordic city, a dense push was made there to maybe cut off Nordic soldiers in Freusa and the surrounding land. Ravonka hoped to get a quick victory over the Nords as their defensive fortifications there were lacking, but the Nords countered the Vaegirs, Nordic huskarls shook the Vaegirs back and captured many of them. Ravonka finally called off the Invasion, the Nords won and Eirikslund will grow more and more Nords will come to the shores of Calardia....
